CAREX Workshops
- The ESF-ILEE Workshop - Nov. 2005
In its developments, CAREX plans to provide a framework for the identification of research priorities and the setting-up of a roadmap for European research in the field. Recommendations and roadmap will be addressed to national and European funding organisations.
This science strategy initiative will focusses on three main issues, identified as cross-cutting priorities in the ESF Investigating Life in Extreme Environment workshop (Nov. 2005):
- The identification of model ecosystems in extreme environments (Completed - Workshop presentations and documents >>)
- The identification of priorities for environment-specific technological developments and infrastructures (Completed - Workshop presentations and documents >>)
- Identification of model organisms in extreme environments (Completed - Workshop presentations and documents >>)
Process
Each of these issues will be addressed by two means: i) the gathering of inputs from the scientific community via on-line questionnaires and ii) the organisation of dedicated interdisciplinary workshosps where inputs gathered will be discussed and synthetised. These workshops are ‘working’ events with significant time dedicated to writing, most of the work will be done during the meeting.
Once the three topics are considered, the main outputs and the resulting reports will be the basis for the definition of a Roadmap for European scientific and technological priorities for the future investigation of life in extreme environments. This integrated strategic document will be targeted towards policy makers and funding organisations.
In Progress
The three first workshops have been held between November 2008 and June 2009. The links above will direct you to the workshops' webpages gathering presentations given and inputs received before the events.
On November 18-20, 2009, CAREX will hold its final Strategic Roadmap workshop. More>>
