CAREX Projects Forum
Perspectives
Networking is an important aspect of CAREX developments. Among other things, the project aims at facilitating information exchange on research on life in extreme environments within the European scientific community. Besides linking individuals, CAREX is keen on providing the opportunity to on-going projects and initiatives to meet and interact. To this end, CAREX set up a life in extreme environments Projects Forum and organised a meeting on 29-30 October, 2009 in the offices of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (Prague).
This meeting provided the opportunity to exchange and share information between projects involved and identify potential synergies and ways to improve networking. But it also allowed to reflect and exchange on project management/implementation issues such as:
-
The specificities of implementing/managing research projects in extreme environments
-
The main hurdles specific to life in extreme environments projects implementation/management – How to overcome them?
-
Best practices in ‘life in extreme environments’ projects implementation/management
In preparation of the roundtable discussion, a consultation aimed at gathering inputs and points of view on the issues above was put online. The contribution received were gathered in a document (donwnloadable here) that was used as a catalysor for discussions.
Programme and output
The first part of the forum (programme) was dedicated to presentations of the 15 projects represented (see below), the second to round tables discussions on cross-cutting issues, specificities and best practices when dealing with extreme envirnments and potential synergies. The outcome of the forum will be a portfolio of projects and a synthesis of the roundtable discussions and will be available in early 2010.
